Area of Science:

  • Plastic Surgery
  • Otolaryngology
  • Reconstructive Surgery

Background:

  • Nasal mucosal lining defects require effective reconstruction.
  • Traditional methods may lead to airway distortion.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy of buccal mucosal flaps for nasal lining reconstruction.
  • To assess their utility in full-thickness nasal defects.

Main Methods:

  • Utilized buccal mucosal flaps in 15 patients.
  • Combined with local flaps for skin coverage.
  • Focused on defects of the lateral nasal wall and nasal tip.

Main Results:

  • Buccal mucosal flaps provided simple and effective nasal lining replacement.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Successfully reconstructed full-thickness defects.
  • Particularly valuable for lower lateral nasal wall and alar rim defects, avoiding airway distortion.
  • Conclusions:

    • Buccal mucosal flaps are a valuable technique for nasal reconstruction.
    • Offers an effective solution for specific nasal defects without compromising the airway.
