Background:

• China's general hospitals face challenges in standardizing clinical documents.

Purpose of the Study:

• To develop reusable data groups (DGs) for standardizing eight common clinical documents in China.
• To achieve structural and semantic standardization for improved healthcare data exchange.

Main Methods:

• Integrated Diagnostics knowledge framework, HL7, IHE, HITSP, and 1,487 clinical records.
• Defined DG architecture and datasets, mapping to Clinical Document Architecture and Chinese National Health Data Dictionary.
• Utilized DGs as building blocks for constructing standardized clinical documents.

Main Results:

• Developed 5 header DGs, 48 section DGs, and 17 entry DGs.
• Defined DG specifics: structure, identifiers, names, definitions, length, format, data types, and value sets.
• Successfully structured standardized clinical documents with consistent semantics.

Conclusions:

• The data group approach offers a feasible, standard-driven solution for clinical document interoperability in China.
