Summary

Single-balloon enteroscopy (SBE)-assisted direct percutaneous endoscopic jejunostomy (DPEJ) offers a safe and effective method for jejunal enteral feeding. This technique demonstrated high success rates, improving patient outcomes when gastric feeding is not tolerated.

Background:

  • To evaluate the efficacy and safety of single-balloon enteroscopy (SBE)-assisted DPEJ.
  • To compare SBE-assisted DPEJ with conventional methods for jejunal feeding tube placement.

  • Performed 12 SBE-assisted DPEJ procedures in 11 patients.
  • The DPEJ placement technique was similar to conventional percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) procedures.

  • Complications included one case each of gastroparesis and aspiration pneumonia.
