Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate postoperative thrombocytopenia following AVR with the FS bioprosthesis.
  • To identify factors associated with thrombocytopenia after FS bioprosthesis implantation.
  • To assess the clinical implications of postoperative thrombocytopenia.

Main Methods:

  • A cohort of 254 patients undergoing AVR with FS bioprosthesis was studied.
  • Platelet counts were monitored preoperatively and daily up to 11 days postoperatively.
  • A multivariate generalized estimating equation model identified prognostic factors for thrombocytopenia.

  • 11.2% of patients had preoperative thrombocytopenia.
