Summary

The timing of in vitro fertilization (IVF) after hysteroscopic endometrial polyp excision does not significantly impact IVF outcomes. Success rates appear similar regardless of whether IVF is performed within six months or later post-surgery.

Background:

  • Endometrial polyps are common uterine abnormalities affecting reproductive health.
  • Hysteroscopic excision is a standard treatment for endometrial polyps.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare in vitro fertilization (IVF) outcomes in patients based on the time interval between hysteroscopic endometrial polyp excision and subsequent IVF.
  • To determine if earlier IVF post-polypectomy improves success rates.

Main Methods:

  • A cohort of 60 patients undergoing IVF after endometrial polyp resection was divided into two groups.
  • Group 1: IVF < 6 months post-polypectomy (n=29).
  • Group 2: IVF ≥ 6 months post-polypectomy (n=31).
  • IVF outcomes including oocyte retrieval, embryo development, fertilization, implantation, and pregnancy rates were compared.

Main Results:

  • No significant differences were observed in the number of retrieved oocytes, metaphase II (MII) oocytes, or transferred embryos between the groups.
  • Embryo quality rates (G1, G2, G3) and MII oocyte ratios were comparable.
  • Fertilization, implantation, and clinical pregnancy rates showed no statistically significant variation between the early (<6 months) and later (≥6 months) IVF groups.

Conclusions:

  • The time interval between hysteroscopic endometrial polyp excision and the initiation of IVF does not appear to influence IVF success rates.
  • Starting IVF treatment within the first few months after polyp resection does not necessarily lead to superior outcomes compared to a longer interval.
