Elevated serum interleukin-6 associated with a failure in B cell differentiation in common variable immunodeficiency

Patients with common variable immunodeficiency (CVI) show high levels of Interleukin-6 (IL-6), a cytokine crucial for B-cell differentiation. This elevated IL-6 is due to hyperproduction, not reduced usage, and doesn't explain the B-cell differentiation defect in CVI.

- The B-cell differentiation defect in CVI is not caused by decreased serum IL-6 levels.
- Elevated circulating IL-6 in CVI patients results from hyperproduction, not reduced consumption.
- Persistently high IL-6 levels may contribute to neoplastic and autoimmune complications in CVI.
