A rare case of painful tic convulsif (PTC), characterized by hemifacial spasm and trigeminal neuralgia, was caused by a posterior fossa arachnoid cyst. Surgical marsupialization of the cyst led to complete symptom recovery.
Area of Science:
- Neurosurgery
- Neurology
- Neuroimaging
Background:
- Painful tic convulsif (PTC) combines hemifacial spasm and ipsilateral trigeminal neuralgia.
- Vascular compression is the most common etiology for PTC.
- Arachnoid cysts are rare causes of neurological symptoms.
