Summary

This study evaluates a wireless sensor network platform for precision agriculture. A modified LORA-CBF routing algorithm performed best with a flat routing strategy in a watermelon field test.

Wireless sensor networks (smart dust) offer advantages like small size, low power, and integration for green applications.
Green applications are crucial in intelligent environments and pervasive computing.
Evaluating new WSN platforms and routing algorithms is essential for advancing these technologies.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate a novel wireless sensor network platform for precision agriculture.
To assess the performance of its embedded operating system and routing algorithm.
To compare hierarchical and flat routing strategies using a modified LORA-CBF algorithm.

Main Methods:

Developed and tested a new wireless sensor network platform.
Implemented and compared hierarchical and flat routing algorithms.
Utilized a modified LORA-CBF (location-based routing algorithm using cluster-based flooding) with residual battery energy monitoring.
Tested the network in a small-scale watermelon field.
