Background:

Chronic neurological diseases like epilepsy and headaches frequently coexist with other medical conditions.
Understanding these comorbidities is crucial for effective patient management.

Purpose of the Study:

To identify common comorbidities in patients with epilepsy and chronic headaches.
To investigate potential drug interactions stemming from polypharmacy in these patient groups.

Main Methods:

A survey was administered to 80 adult participants (40 with epilepsy, 40 with chronic headache).
The questionnaire collected data on epilepsy/headache type, medical history, and current medications.

Main Results:

Epilepsy patients averaged two comorbidities; headache patients averaged three. Hypertension was the most common comorbidity in both groups.
Patients with epilepsy took an average of two antiepileptic drugs and one additional medication, while headache patients took one prophylactic drug and two additional medications.

Conclusions:

Individuals with epilepsy and chronic headaches exhibit a high burden of comorbidities and polypharmacy.
The complex medication regimens in these patients may negatively impact treatment adherence and increase the likelihood of drug-drug interactions.
