Proteomics

A proteome is the entire set of proteins that a cell type produces. We can study proteomes using the knowledge of genomes because genes code for mRNAs, and the mRNAs encode proteins. Although mRNA analysis is a step in the right direction, not all mRNAs are translated into proteins.
Proteomics is the study of proteomes' function. It involves the large-scale systematic study of the proteome to denote the protein complement expressed by a genome. Scientist Mark Wilkins coined the term proteomics...

Area of Science:

  • Proteomics
  • Bioinformatics
  • Data Management

Background:

  • Modern proteomics generates vast datasets, overwhelming manual data handling.
  • Previous methods for proteomics data storage and analysis were inefficient.
  • Automated systems are needed to manage the increasing volume of proteomic data.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To introduce PRODIS (Proteomics Database Integrated System) for managing proteomic experimental data.
  • To enable efficient management of the proteomic experimentation workflow.
  • To simplify experiment control and data linkage.

Main Methods:

  • PRODIS is a fully web-based system for flexible data upload and management.
  • It supports data from Liquid Chromatography, 2D-PAGE, and Mass Spectrometry.
  • Features include password protection, user clearance levels, and experiment tracking.

Main Results:
