[A case of emphysematous cystitis].

Background:

Emphysematous cystitis is a rare gas-forming bladder infection.
It is often associated with uncontrolled diabetes and urinary tract infections.

Observation:

A 54-year-old woman presented with gross hematuria and fever.
Cystoscopy revealed submucosal bladder emphysema, and radiography showed perivesical gas.
The patient had acute pyelonephritis and uncontrolled diabetes.

Findings:

The patient's symptoms improved after antibiotic administration.
A review of 12 Japanese cases summarized pathophysiologic features.

Implications:

This case highlights the presentation and successful management of emphysematous cystitis.
Understanding its pathophysiology is crucial for timely diagnosis and treatment.
