  • First-year PharmD students read a assigned nonfiction text during the summer before admission.
  • Facilitated discussions and curriculum-integrated activities based on the text were conducted.
  • Pre- and post-experience surveys were administered to students and faculty.

Main Results:

  • The common reading experience was utilized in three first-year courses.
  • Students reported enhanced understanding of healthcare delivery and clinical research due to the text's historical perspective.
  • A significant majority of students (78%) recommended continuing the common reading experience.

Conclusions:
