Purpose of the Study:

  • To implement and evaluate a novel, multiple-instructor, team-based, active-learning exercise.
  • To foster the integration of basic sciences (pathophysiology, pharmacology, medicinal chemistry) with clinical sciences.
  • To enhance the doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) curriculum.

Main Methods:

  • A team-based learning (TBL) activity was designed and moderated by faculty from pharmaceutical sciences and pharmacy practice.
  • The TBL involved pre-class readings, individual and team readiness assurance tests (IRAT/TRAT), and clinical case analysis.
  • Student performance was assessed via examination and SOAP notes; attitudes were surveyed pre- and post-exercise.
