Often, psychologists develop surveys as a means of gathering data. Surveys are lists of questions to be answered by research participants, and can be delivered as paper-and-pencil questionnaires, administered electronically, or conducted verbally. Attitudes and beliefs toward hypnosis influence therapeutic outcomes.

Purpose of the Study:

To conduct a factor analysis of the Valencia Scale of Attitudes and Beliefs Toward Hypnosis-Client Version.
To examine the factor structure of hypnosis attitudes in an American undergraduate sample.
To compare findings with previous international studies.

Main Methods:

Factor analysis of responses from 1,141 American undergraduate students.
Utilized the Valencia Scale of Attitudes and Beliefs Toward Hypnosis-Client Version.
Confirmatory factor analysis to assess model fit.

Main Results:

An 8-factor solution was obtained, explaining 66% of the variance.
The proposed model demonstrated acceptable fit.
