SUDEP discussions with patients and families

Abstract:
SUDEP is clearly a very important issue. Patients and their representatives (and in Scotland our legal system) would like consistency and clarity in how this information is conveyed. It behooves us to find a way to pass on our concerns in a way that acknowledges the needs, fears and circumstances of each individual patient and, where appropriate,of their family or carers. I think it is unreasonable to insist on not changing our practice. Emphasising and promoting measures that increase safety and reduce risk can only be to patients’ benefit, no matter the terminology used.

Fortunately, due to advancement in technology, many rural healthcare facilities and professionals have easy access to diagnostic and treatment...

Physicians
The physician's primary responsibility is to diagnose illness and direct the medical or surgical treatment of the condition. The authority to admit patients to a healthcare agency or institution and practice care within that setting is granted to physicians by the healthcare agency or institution itself.
