Area of Science:

  • Image Processing
  • Computational Imaging
  • Optics

Background:

  • Multispectral imaging captures detailed spectral information but often at lower spatial resolution.
  • Acquiring high-resolution multispectral data is challenging and resource-intensive.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To propose a novel hybrid-resolution multispectral imaging method.
  • To reconstruct high-resolution multispectral images using readily available RGB data and MSFA measurements.

Main Methods:

  • A new framework for hybrid-resolution multispectral imaging is presented.
  • Reconstruction of multispectral bands as a linear combination of full-resolution RGB images.
  • Weighting coefficients determined using data from a multispectral filter array (MSFA).

Main Results:

  • The proposed method effectively reconstructs multispectral image bands.
  • Simulations using spectral images of natural scenes demonstrate the approach's viability.
  • Achieves hybrid-resolution multispectral imaging by combining different data types.

Conclusions:

  • The developed method offers a practical approach to acquiring high-resolution multispectral images.
  • This framework enhances multispectral imaging capabilities by leveraging RGB and MSFA data.
  • The technique shows promise for applications requiring detailed spectral and spatial information.
