Background:

  • Pronator syndrome, a median nerve compression, is typically treated with open surgery.
  • Open surgery for pronator syndrome can result in long, noticeable scars in the antecubital fossa.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To introduce an endoscopic technique for proximal median nerve decompression in pronator syndrome.
  • To evaluate the safety and efficacy of this minimally invasive approach in improving patient outcomes.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective review of 13 patients (14 cases) with isolated pronator syndrome treated with endoscopic decompression.
  • Exclusion of patients with concurrent carpal tunnel syndrome or other nerve compressions.
  • Assessment of patient outcomes using the Disabilities of the Shoulder, Arm, and Hand (DASH) scoring protocol.

Main Results:

  • All patients experienced symptomatic improvement, with average DASH scores decreasing from 56 preoperatively to 6 postoperatively.
