Background:

  • Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder triggered by gluten.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate serum beta 2-m levels in children with celiac disease.
  • To assess the impact of gluten-containing and gluten-free diets on beta 2-m levels.

  • Serum beta 2-m levels were measured in 65 children with celiac disease and 15 controls.
  • Patients were categorized based on adherence to a gluten-free diet (GFD) for <8 months or >8 months.
  • Statistical analysis compared beta 2-m levels between groups.

  • Children on a gluten-containing diet had significantly higher beta 2-m levels (1.92 mg/L) compared to those on a GFD (>8 months, 1.46 mg/L) and controls (1.56 mg/L).
