Summary

Chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency (CCSVI) is linked to multiple sclerosis (MS). Ultrasound evaluation of MS patients shows reliable results for detecting CCSVI, with specific venous anomalies correlating to disease forms and disability.

Background:

  • Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic neurological disease with complex etiology.
  • Chronic Cerebrospinal Venous Insufficiency (CCSVI) has been proposed as a potential contributing factor in MS.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the interobserver variability of venous echo-color-Doppler (ECD) in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients.
  • To correlate specific ultrasound-detected venous abnormalities (echo-markers) with clinical symptoms and disability levels in MS.
  • To assess the diagnostic value of ECD in identifying CCSVI in MS.
