Summary

Bulimia nervosa patients show enlarged brain ventricles compared to healthy individuals. This study found a significantly greater ventricular brain ratio in bulimics, but no link to clinical or metabolic factors.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate differences in brain structure between individuals with bulimia nervosa and healthy controls.
  • To explore potential correlations between brain structure and clinical/metabolic factors in bulimia nervosa.

Main Methods:

  • Cranial computed tomography (CT) scans were utilized.
  • Seventeen patients diagnosed with bulimia nervosa were compared to twenty-one age- and sex-matched healthy controls.
  • The ventricular brain ratio (VBR) was calculated for all participants.
