Self-report inventories are objective personality assessments that use multiple-choice items or numbered scales, typically ranging from 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree). They are often called Likert scales after Rensis Likert. These inventories are widely used due to their ease of administration and cost-effectiveness. Summary

This study developed and validated equivalent forms of the Assessment Battery for Communication (ABaCo) for assessing pragmatic abilities in patients. The results confirm the psychometric properties and clinical utility of the ABaCo for evaluating communication skills.

Background:

Pragmatic abilities are crucial for social interaction and can be impaired in neuropsychological and psychiatric disorders.
Assessing these abilities is vital for diagnosis, treatment planning, and monitoring recovery.
Existing assessment tools may lack equivalent forms for repeated testing, limiting their use in intervention research.

Purpose of the Study:

To develop and test two equivalent forms of the Assessment Battery for Communication (ABaCo).
To evaluate the psychometric properties and clinical utility of these equivalent forms.
To provide a reliable tool for assessing pragmatic abilities in clinical and research settings.

Main Methods:

Development of two equivalent forms of the ABaCo using data from 390 children.
Testing the psychometric properties of the equivalent forms in a sample of 30 patients with traumatic brain injury.
Statistical analysis to confirm the equivalence and reliability of the ABaCo forms.
