We report a rare case of primary pulmonary Ewing's sarcoma, a cancer typically found in bone or soft tissue. This finding highlights the importance of considering rare tumor presentations in the lung.
Area of Science:
- Oncology
- Pulmonary Medicine
- Pathology
Background:
- Ewing's sarcoma typically arises in bone or soft tissues, rarely in the lungs.
- A family history of sarcoma was noted in this patient.
Observation:
- A 42-year-old male presented with hemoptysis and a pulmonary mass.
- Imaging (CT, PET) confirmed a primary lung lesion.
- Histopathology revealed small round blue cells with CD99 positivity.
- Genetic analysis confirmed EWS/FLI-1 fusion transcripts.
Findings:
- Diagnosis of primary pulmonary Ewing's sarcoma was confirmed.
- The tumor was confined to the lung parenchyma.
- The patient underwent right lower lobectomy and chemotherapy.
Implications:
- This case expands the known anatomical sites for Ewing's sarcoma.
- Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are crucial for this rare pulmonary neoplasm.
- Further research into pulmonary Ewing's sarcoma is warranted.
