[Asynchronous birth in twin pregnancy. Literature review and case report]

The incidence of multiple pregnancy has grown, some of these cases are attributed to assisted reproduction techniques, with the consequent increase of maternal-fetal morbidity. There have been few reported cases of delayed interval delivery with different perinatal outcomes. This is a case report of a double twin pregnancy with delayed delivery of the second fetus after birth of the first one within 15.5 weeks of pregnancy, and the second one birth at 38.4 weeks, 158 days after the first one. Reported diagnosis, treatment and perinatal outcomes.

The mean reported time to extend the pregnancy after the evacuation of the first one is 7 to 153 days. In this case the pregnancy was held 158 days, more than in the rest of the reported cases, maybe due to gestational delivery age of the first fetus (15.5 weeks) compared to fetuses of 20 to 28 weeks reported in the literature. The approach of these specific cases must be individualized. There have been no trials enough so we can't know with certainty which treatment is the best of all.
