Summary

A canine pleural effusion in a Labrador retriever was linked to a rare matrix-secreting tumor, likely a myxosarcoma. Diagnosis was confirmed through cytology, thoracoscopy, and electron microscopy.

  • Fluid drainage exposed a soft tissue mass near the heart's left ventricle.
  • Cytological analysis of the fluid showed atypical mesenchymal cells with matrix production.

  • Thoracoscopy identified the primary mass and additional smaller masses within the pleural space.
