Summary

A bodybuilder experienced upper limb pain after bench presses, revealing a pectoralis major tendon rupture. This injury highlights the risks associated with intense weightlifting exercises.

Background:

  • Weightlifting, particularly bench presses, places significant stress on the upper body musculature.
  • Pectoralis major tendon ruptures are uncommon but serious injuries, often associated with forceful eccentric contractions or sudden trauma.

Observation:

  • A bodybuilder presented with acute right upper limb pain and swelling post-bench press.
  • Clinical examination revealed significant hematoma and muscle weakness in the affected arm.

Findings:

  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) confirmed a complete rupture of the pectoralis major tendon.
  • The imaging also assessed the extent of associated soft tissue injury.
