Summary

Dashmulakwatha, an Ayurvedic preparation, was analyzed for its phytosterol content. High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) revealed a significant 7.165% W/W concentration of phytosterols, using beta-sitosterol as the reference standard.

Area of Science:

  • Phytochemistry
  • Ayurvedic Medicine
  • Analytical Chemistry

Background:

  • Dashmula is a classical Ayurvedic formulation comprising ten roots.
  • Phytosterols are plant-derived compounds with potential health benefits.
  • Quantification of active compounds in Ayurvedic preparations ensures quality and efficacy.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine the phytosterol content in Dashmulakwatha.
  • To establish a quantitative analytical method for phytosterols in this Ayurvedic preparation.
  • To ensure the quality control of Dashmulakwatha.

Main Methods:

  • High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) was employed for phytosterol analysis.
  • Beta-sitosterol was used as the reference standard for quantification.
