Background:

HIV testing frequency is crucial for early detection and prevention among men who have sex with men (MSM).
Understanding temporal trends and correlates of HIV testing among MSM can inform targeted public health interventions.

Purpose of the Study:

To examine temporal trends in HIV testing frequency among MSM in King County, Washington.
To identify factors associated with HIV testing intervals in this population.

Main Methods:

Retrospective analysis of HIV testing data from MSM at public health clinics and surveillance registries.
Calculation of intertest intervals (ITI) and use of generalized estimating equations for regression analysis.

Main Results:

Median ITI ranged from 215 to 257 days between 2003-2010.
Younger age, having only male partners, and higher numbers of partners were linked to shorter ITIs.
Individuals newly diagnosed with HIV had significantly longer ITIs compared to those testing negative.

Conclusions:

MSM in King County demonstrate frequent HIV testing patterns.
Efforts are needed to shorten the duration of unawareness of HIV status among infected individuals.
