Area of Science:

  • Interventional Cardiology
  • Cardiovascular Devices
  • Coronary Artery Disease

Background:

  • Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for coronary artery bifurcations remains challenging.
  • Side-branch compromise is a significant cause of major adverse cardiac events after PCI.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To explore the potential of dedicated bifurcation stents in improving PCI outcomes.
  • To assess the current status and future prospects of novel bifurcation stenting technologies.

Main Methods:

  • Review of current advancements in bifurcation stenting.
  • Analysis of ongoing clinical trials for dedicated bifurcation stent designs.

Main Results:

  • Dedicated bifurcation stents represent an exciting new concept to address SB compromise.
  • Several novel stent designs are currently under clinical investigation.

Conclusions:

  • Dedicated bifurcation stents offer new hope for managing complex coronary bifurcations.
  • Widespread acceptance and routine use are challenged by complex delivery techniques and the need for precise anatomical knowledge.
