Abstract:
Hypercoagulability is a state in which the hemostatic balance shifts toward excessive platelet activation and fibrin deposition, leading to thrombosis. Although a definitive diagnosis is often difficult to make, identifying patients at risk for thromboembolism is critical. By identifying these patients and understanding mechanisms that contribute to hypercoagulability, clinicians can select protocols that aid in thrombus prevention. Several therapeutic options exist, including antiplatelet, anticoagulant, and fibrinolytic drugs.
