Summary

Recent dengue infection is significantly associated with miscarriage. This mosquito-borne illness was detected more often in women experiencing miscarriage compared to those with viable pregnancies, even after accounting for other factors.

  • Maternal dengue infection can lead to vertical transmission and pregnancy loss.
  • The specific link between dengue and miscarriage remains unclear.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine the association between recent dengue infection and miscarriage.
  • To investigate if dengue infection increases the risk of pregnancy loss.

Main Methods:

  • Case-control study comparing women with miscarriage (up to 22 weeks gestation) to controls with viable pregnancies.
  • Sera tested for dengue-specific IgM, non-structural protein 1 (NS1) antigen, and IgG using ELISA.
  • Statistical analysis adjusted for maternal age, gestational age, parity, and ethnicity.
