[Intracranial cylindroma (cylindromatous epithelioma)]

A case with intracranial cylindroma is reported. Intracranial cylindroma possesses local destructive growth and may recur repeatedly and produce metastases; it is localized on the base of the skull in the chiasmal area or, more frequently, in the region of the trigeminal ganglion. Cylindroma of chiasmal localization develops from ectopic mucous glands of the nose or nasal sinuses, whereas cylindroma of the trigeminal ganglion arises from the glandular epithelium of the auditory tube. Intracranial cylindroma is sensitive to radiation therapy. In the case discussed, the cylindroma was localized in the chiasmal area.
