Summary

This systematic review found insufficient evidence to recommend home-based upper limb therapy programs for stroke survivors. More high-quality research is needed to determine their effectiveness compared to usual care or no intervention.

  • Included four studies with 166 participants; three compared home-based therapy with usual care.
  • No statistically significant differences were found for primary outcomes: activities of daily living (ADL) and upper limb functional movement.
  • Secondary outcomes, including extended ADL and upper limb motor impairment, also showed no statistically significant improvements.

Conclusions:

  • Current evidence is insufficient to support recommendations for home-based upper limb therapy programs.
  • Further high-quality research is required to establish the efficacy of these interventions compared to control groups.
