Kidney duplication anomalies are common congenital conditions.
Open heminephrectomy is a traditional surgical approach.

A simplified retroperitoneal laparoscopic technique for upper pole nephrectomy was developed.
The technique involves initial parenchyma incision, guided dissection, and identification of vascular supply.
Ectopic ureter dissection and division are performed subsequently.
