Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine the incidence of moderate-to-severe transient neonatal hypocalcemia in term neonates.

  • A retrospective review of medical records was conducted for term infants under 31 days of age presenting with hypocalcemia.
  • Inclusion criteria required ionized calcium levels below 1.00 mmol/L (4.00 mg/dL).

  • Seventy-eight infants met the criteria, with a median age at admission of 8.0 days.
