Summary

Sutureless aortic valve replacement via right minithoracotomy simplifies implantation, potentially increasing adoption of minimally invasive aortic valve replacement (AVR) surgery. This approach offers a less invasive alternative to traditional sternotomy for aortic valve disease.

Area of Science:

  • Cardiovascular Surgery
  • Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery
  • Aortic Valve Replacement

Background:

  • Growing interest in less-invasive cardiac valve surgery.
  • Standardized minimally invasive mitral valve surgery contrasts with debated aortic valve replacement (AVR) routes.
  • Right minithoracotomy for AVR avoids sternotomy but demands advanced surgical skill.

Observation:

  • Three patients underwent aortic valve replacement using a 3f-Enable sutureless bioprosthesis.
  • The procedure was performed via a right minithoracotomy approach.
  • This technique aims to simplify valve implantation.

Findings:

  • Sutureless aortic bioprostheses may facilitate the adoption of minimally invasive AVR.
  • The 3f-Enable prosthesis was successfully implanted in three patients via right minithoracotomy.
  • The study discusses the advantages and potential improvements of this surgical approach.

Implications:

  • Sutureless valves could expand the use of minimally invasive AVR.
  • This approach may reduce surgical complexity and improve patient outcomes.
  • Further investigation into the benefits and refinements of sutureless AVR via minithoracotomy is warranted.
