Summary

Unilateral varicocele impairs sperm production in both testes, with greater effects on the affected side. This study provides evidence linking varicocele to reduced spermatogenesis and male infertility.

Background:

  • The causal link between varicocele and male infertility remains debated.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the impact of unilateral varicocele on spermatogenesis in both testes.
  • To determine if varicocele affects the ipsilateral and contralateral testes differently.

  • Surgically induced left varicocele in rats.
  • Evaluated testicular weight, flow cytometric DNA analysis, and mean seminiferous tubular diameter (MSTD) 5 weeks postoperatively.
