Conservative management of epistaxis.

Summary

Conservative management, including nasal packing, is clinically useful for treating epistaxis (nosebleeds). Most patients requiring hospitalization for nosebleeds experienced short stays and avoided transfusions, indicating effective non-surgical treatment.

Background:

Epistaxis (nosebleeds) is a common condition requiring medical attention.
Evaluating the effectiveness of non-surgical interventions is crucial for patient care.

Purpose of the Study:

To assess the clinical utility of non-surgical management for hospitalized epistaxis patients.
To analyze factors influencing treatment outcomes and resource utilization.

Main Methods:

Retrospective study of 340 patients hospitalized for epistaxis.
Review of patient history, management type, hospitalization duration, and transfusion volume.
Analysis of non-surgical interventions, primarily nasal packing.

Nasal packing was used in 94.1% of patients.
