Background:

Nurse practitioners (NPs) in Ontario, Canada, encounter significant practice barriers.
These barriers impede their ability to enhance access to comprehensive primary healthcare services.

Purpose of the Study:

To examine the barriers faced by NPs in Ontario.
To evaluate the impact of a NP-Led Clinic Model in overcoming these barriers and improving healthcare access.

Main Methods:

Review of legislative and regulatory documents from the Ontario government.
Reflective analysis of NP practice barriers and the impact of the NP-Led Clinic Model.

Main Results:

The NP-Led Clinic Model has demonstrated a significant positive impact on access to care.
This model helps to overcome many of the identified barriers to NP practice.

Conclusions:

Granting NPs a voice in workplace governance and operations can effectively reduce practice barriers.
The Ontario NP-Led Clinic Model offers valuable insights and lessons for NPs globally.
