Genetic variations in steroid biosynthesis enzymes CYP11A1 and HSD3B1 are linked to left ventricular (LV) mass and diastolic function. These findings suggest a role for genetic factors in cardiac remodeling.

- Endogenous ouabain (EO) and aldosterone are steroid hormones implicated in left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy and cardiac remodeling.
- Cholesterol side-chain cleavage enzyme (CYP11A1) and 3β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (HSD3B1) are critical enzymes in steroid biosynthesis.

- Carriers of the HSD3B1 GCC haplotype showed altered mitral annular velocities, resulting in a lower Ea/Aa ratio, indicative of impaired diastolic function.
Conclusions:
- LV mass and diastolic function appear to be associated with genetic variations in steroid biosynthesis enzymes.
- Further studies are needed to confirm these findings in diverse populations.
