Summary

Green algae infections caused peritonitis in two cows, a condition previously linked to bovine lymphadenitis. Genetic analysis suggests the algae belong to the Scenedesmus genus.

  • One affected cow also presented with generalized lymphadenitis.
  • Histological examination revealed intralesional green algae resembling those linked to bovine lymphadenitis.

Findings:

  • The identified green algae were histologically similar to those previously associated with bovine lymphadenitis.
  • Sequencing of the algal ITS2 genes showed higher homology with the genus Scenedesmus compared to Chlorella.
