Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine the prevalence of indoor mobility-related fatigability in nonagenarians.
  • To identify health factors associated with this fatigability in the studied population.

Main Methods:

  • A cross-sectional observational study involving 1,181 individuals aged 92-93, born in 1905 and assessed in 1998.
  • Data collection included self-reported fatigability during indoor transfers/walking, medical history, and performance-based measures (walking speed, handgrip strength).

Main Results:

  • Twenty-six percent of nonagenarians reported indoor mobility fatigability.
  • Fatigability was more prevalent in sheltered housing residents (32%) compared to those living independently (23%).
  • Independent associations were found with cardiovascular diseases, musculoskeletal pain, medications, reduced walking speed, and depressive symptoms.

Conclusions:

  • Indoor mobility fatigability is common among non-disabled nonagenarians.
