Background:

  • Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a significant risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, including hypertension, coronary heart disease, heart failure, and stroke.
  • The association between OSA severity and cardiac structural and functional changes requires further investigation.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate left ventricular mass (LVM) and myocardial performance index (MPI) in patients diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea.
  • To determine if cardiac abnormalities correlate with the severity of OSA.

Main Methods:

  • A cross-sectional study involving 40 patients evaluated for OSA.
  • Patients underwent polysomnography to determine apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) and echocardiography for cardiac assessments.
