This study introduces a new single-incision laparoscopic ovariectomy technique in dogs using the SILS Port. Omitting the suspension suture reduced complications without increasing surgery time.

  • Compared outcomes with and without a transabdominal suspension suture.

    • Ovarian resection averaged 25.1 minutes.
    • Minor bleeding occurred in 5 dogs using the suspension suture.
    • Omitting the suspension suture reduced complications without affecting surgery duration.
    • Instrument collision increased without the suture, but visualization and maneuverability remained adequate.

    Conclusions:

    • Single-incision laparoscopic ovariectomy using the SILS Port is feasible in dogs.
    • A transabdominal suspension suture is not mandatory and may be associated with increased complications.
    • This technique offers a minimally invasive option for canine ovariectomy.
