Acne Infection01:27

Acne Infection

Acne is a multifactorial skin condition primarily affecting adolescents and young adults, with a global prevalence estimated to exceed 75% in this demographic. The condition is characterized by the formation of comedones (blackheads and whiteheads), papules, pustules, nodules, and, in severe cases, cysts, particularly in areas rich in sebaceous glands such as the face, neck, chest, and back. The pathogenesis involves increased sebum production, follicular hyperkeratinization, colonization by...

Summary

Follicular flushing during oocyte retrieval does not improve egg numbers or pregnancy rates in IVF. This technique, however, significantly increases the procedure time for assisted reproductive technologies.

Area of Science:

  • Reproductive Medicine
  • In Vitro Fertilization
  • Oocyte Retrieval Techniques

Background:

  • Transvaginal ultrasonographic guidance is standard for oocyte retrieval in IVF-ICSI.
  • The effectiveness of follicular flushing during egg collection remains debated despite advances in assisted reproduction.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the efficacy of follicular aspiration alone versus aspiration plus flushing.
  • To evaluate the impact on retrieved oocyte number and clinical pregnancy rates.

Main Methods:

  • 200 patients undergoing IVF were randomized into aspiration-only (control) and aspiration+flushing (intervention) groups.
  • Oocyte retrieval occurred when the dominant follicle reached 17 mm.
  • Follicular flushing was performed after aspiration in the intervention group.

Main Results:

  • No significant difference in the number of retrieved oocytes between groups.
  • Clinical pregnancy rates were 40% (intervention) vs. 33% (control), not statistically significant.
  • Follicular flushing significantly increased total operation time (p=0.02).

Conclusions:

  • Follicular flushing during oocyte retrieval does not enhance oocyte yield or clinical pregnancy rates.
  • The procedure significantly prolongs the overall operation time.
  • Current evidence does not support routine follicular flushing in IVF cycles.
