CTLA-4 polymorphisms and susceptibility to Behcet's disease: a meta-analysis

This meta-analysis found no link between cytotoxic T lymphocyte antigen-4 (CTLA-4) gene variations and Behcet's disease (BD) susceptibility. The study examined CTLA-4 +49 A/G, -318 C/T, and CT60 A/G polymorphisms across multiple genetic models.

- Further analysis, including stratification by ethnicity (Turkish population), recessive, dominant, and homozygote contrast models, also revealed no association for CTLA-4 +49 A/G.
- Similarly, no statistically significant associations were identified for the CTLA-4 -318 C/T and CT60 A/G polymorphisms with Behcet's disease.
Conclusions:
- The meta-analysis concludes that the studied CTLA-4 polymorphisms (+49 A/G, -318 C/T, CT60 A/G) are not associated with an increased risk of developing Behcet's disease.
- These findings suggest that CTLA-4 gene variations may not be major genetic determinants for Behcet's disease susceptibility.
- Further research into other genetic and environmental factors is warranted to elucidate the pathogenesis of Behcet's disease.
