Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Hematology
  • Gastroenterology

Background:

  • Extramedullary plasmacytomas (EMPs) are uncommon malignant plasma cell neoplasms occurring outside the bone marrow.
  • While typically found in the upper respiratory tract (80%), gastrointestinal involvement is rare.

Observation:

  • A case report of an asymptomatic 65-year-old male incidentally found with a pancreatic mass.
  • The pancreatic lesion was diagnosed as a plasmacytoma via fine-needle aspiration cytology and confirmed by surgical resection.

Findings:

  • The patient exhibited no clinical, laboratory, or imaging evidence of multiple myeloma.
  • No other concurrent plasmacytomas were identified, supporting a diagnosis of primary pancreatic plasmacytoma.
