Summary

Linburg-Comstock syndrome involves anomalous tendon slips causing difficulty with independent thumb and index finger flexion. Surgical disconnection of these anomalous tendons effectively restored function for a carpenter.

Background:

  • Linburg-Comstock syndrome is a rare condition characterized by anomalous tendon connections between the flexor pollicis longus (FPL) and flexor digitorum profundus (FDP) tendons, typically affecting the index finger.
  • This anatomical anomaly can lead to functional limitations, impacting fine motor skills and daily activities.

Observation:

  • A carpenter presented with functional disability, specifically the inability to independently flex his thumb and index finger, which interfered with his work involving screws.
  • The patient's symptoms were directly related to the anomalous tendinous connection between the FPL and the index FDP tendon.

Findings:

  • Surgical intervention involving the disconnection of the anomalous tendinous connection between the FPL and index FDP tendons was performed.
