Summary

Surgery for conductive/mixed hearing loss significantly improves bone conduction thresholds. Middle ear interventions appear to enhance inner ear function, with otosclerosis showing the highest improvement rates.

Enhanced Cochlear Coverage and Hearing Preservation in High-Frequency Hearing Loss via Electric Acoustic Stimulation with Longer Electrode

  • Surgical interventions included myringoplasty, ossiculoplasty, mastoidectomy, stapes mobilization, and stapedotomy.
  • Significant bone conduction change defined as ≥15 dB improvement/worsening at 2+ frequencies (500-4000 Hz).

    • Consistent pre-operative bone conduction reduction observed across groups.
    • Significant post-operative bone conduction improvement noted to varying degrees.
    • The otosclerosis group exhibited the highest percentage (60%) of patients with post-operative bone conduction improvement.
