    Area of Science:

    • Chiropractic Education
    • Medical Simulation
    • Health Professions Education

    Background:

    • Simulation-based education is increasingly utilized in health professions training.
    • Manikin-based simulation offers a controlled environment for developing clinical skills.
    • Its application in chiropractic undergraduate education requires further investigation.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To describe the development and implementation of simulation exercises.
    • To investigate the feasibility and satisfaction of a manikin-based simulation program.
    • To assess the relative effectiveness of simulation in chiropractic undergraduate education.

    Main Methods:

    • Qualitative review of simulation literature and environments.
    • Implementation of simulation scenarios with 95 student interns, 11 clinicians, and 59 students (1st and 2nd year).
    • Assessment via satisfaction/usability questionnaires, perceived learning outcomes, anxiety scores, and comparison of course examination scores.

    Main Results:

    • High levels of participant satisfaction, usability, and perceived achievement of learning outcomes were reported.
    • Anxiety levels varied based on the role chosen by interns.
    • A trend showed a 3.25% increase in examination scores for students participating in simulations.

    Conclusions:

    • Manikin-based simulation in chiropractic education achieved high student satisfaction and perceived learning.
    • A positive trend in basic science knowledge integration was observed, warranting further research.
    • The program demonstrated feasibility and potential effectiveness in enhancing chiropractic training.
