Summary

Cutaneous endometriosis is a rare skin condition often misdiagnosed. Early consideration and histological diagnosis via excision biopsy are key for effective management of this umbilical lesion.

Background:

Cutaneous endometriosis is a rare condition affecting the skin.
It presents diagnostic challenges due to its rarity and varied appearance.
Management recommendations in current literature are inconsistent.

Observation:

A case of cutaneous endometriosis presenting to a plastic surgery service is detailed.
The case highlights the importance of considering this condition in differential diagnoses.
Literature review accompanies the case presentation.

Findings:

Cutaneous endometriosis should be considered in females with umbilical lesions.
Diagnosis requires histological confirmation.
Excision biopsy with 2 mm margins is recommended for diagnosis.
